Delightful, absorbing and engaging. This is a wonderfully readable and engaging story from a gifted writer. It's warm and humorous, gently conveying important messages about kindness and care for others through beautifully vivid and accessible writing, and skilful but subtle character-building, while keeping the pace of the story compelling and engaging. It truly takes you into a different world: it's one of those books that you - and your children or grandchildren - never want to finish reading. The colourful and clever illustrations add an additional and valuable dimension. An absolute delight for both children and adults!

A heartwarming and wonderful story. I became a fan of Lois Davis’ stories a while back after reading some of her earlier work. She writes wonderful heartwarming stories for young children that are full of fantastic characters. Adults enjoy reading her stories to children as much as the children enjoy listening to them. Mincemeat and the Incredible Train Ride is an engaging and exciting story that children will love and not want to put down. I highly recommend the Great Grandma Series and Mincemeat’s World of Adventures.

A charming bedtime read with a human sized cat and a would-be express train! This is a charming book that can be read over a couple of bedtimes with a human sized cat and a would-be express train. The story reminded me of the old Thomas the Tank engine books. It included lots of amusing place names and a whimsical storyline with bags of imagination - we particularly loved the pumpkin car illustration! 🙂

Original, hilarious and beautifully written. What a lovely and utterly memorable book this is! Beautifully written and with gorgeous colourful illustrations to match, Mincemeat and the Incredible Train Ride is a thoroughly enjoyable story for kids and parents alike. The author's ideas are original and delightfully bonkers: Mincemeat himself is a person-sized cat who loves cooking - I mean who isn't going to adore such a character? And I loved Muddlewich (probably in part as I live down the road from Middlewich myself!), a village where everything is uspide down or disorderly. I really hope parents buy this book in their droves as Lois Davis deserves to be successful – and we all deserve to read a lot more adventures based around the brilliant Mincemeat!

Very sweet story. Both the story and illustrations conveyed emotions beautifully; and the story had just the ‘right’ amount of suspense. I also loved the names of the streets/places... I really felt transported to another place and time. Highly recommend!

Great story – how a simple train ride can become a wonderful journey of imagination and adventure. The characters carry the story forward with impulsive and funny actions that kids can relate to (the purchase of random gifts; stations made of marshmallows; and Zayne going faster and faster, just because he wants to be an express train!) There is language to savour and illustrations to delight – we enjoyed reading it together and there is already a request for a second read!

Lovely book about an adventurous cat. Imagine a cat who's full of life, loves baking and going on adventures. My children absolutely love this author and loved this book. My 8year old devoured the book and couldn't wait to tell me all about the adventures Mincemeat had with Great Grandma. She found it humorous and entertaining and wants me to get a copy for her cousin too. The writer writes with such beautiful imagery. Can't help but pull little ones into a wonderful world of adventure. Would highly recommend.

KIND IS COOL!

I am the words on the written page
I am the words on your tongue
I am powerful
I can hurt you
I can love you
Do not choose me in haste
Do not choose me in anger
Rather choose me with thought
Choose me for kindness
Lois Davis Children’s Author #ethos of kindness

My Mission

I write children’s books for a time when the world needs more kindness. My mission is to do whatever I can to explain why kindness is cool and bullying is so not cool.

My Message

We seem to live in a world where many children often feel subject to peer pressure, surrounded by the lure of materialism and with easy access to the online games that frequently contain violence. Quite often the message of being kind to one another is lost.

Just a Smile

Kindness and consideration, and helping others not only benefits the recipient but can be a very positive experience for the person giving. With the resulting encouragement that a child may receive, and ultimately the pride that child will feel, it can undoubtedly boost their self-esteem.

Giving can come in the smallest of ways that we as parents, teachers, and grandparents can convey to our children. Just a smile can brighten someone’s day, asking how someone is feeling, giving a hug, or simply putting a penny in a charity box.

My hope is that whilst bringing kindness to the world, children will love my stories as much as I love writing them.

In the meantime, you are welcome to find me on Facebook.
